Understand how your creative mind works.
Find out what comes naturally to you. You might be drawn to possibilities you can picture, become absorbed in an unanswered question, or feel compelled to try a different way. Your result explores the combination that makes your approach distinctive.
You’ll discover your creative type, what motivates you, and how to put those strengths to use in your work and everyday life.
Understand why you get stuck. A mind full of possibilities can make it hard to commit to one. The determination to finish can make it harder to leave an idea behind. Sometimes the thing that helps you create also gets in your way.
Your reading explores these tensions in your own profile, with suggestions for developing your strengths and working through the habits that hold you back.
Discover who brings out your best. The person who comes up with an idea and the person who questions it can make a powerful pair. Understanding the difference helps you see what each of you contributes.
Your profile explores what you bring to a group, where friction with others can arise, and the creative partners who help you go further. You may recognize a colleague, a friend, or someone you’ve always loved making things with.
The psychology behind your creative type.
Why do two creative people approach the same problem so differently? In a study of 9,633 people, creative habits varied widely within art, science and business. Knowing someone’s profession told researchers surprisingly little about their creative style. Read the study ↗
Personality offers another way to understand those differences. Across four samples totalling 1,035 people, researchers found different personality patterns associated with creative achievement in the arts and sciences. Read the study ↗
We developed the Coached Creativity Index to explore how your personality shapes your creativity. It brings together four traits from research on personality, character strengths and curiosity. We compare each trait with its research reference group, then interpret the combination to explain your creative strengths, possible blind spots and approach to working with others.
A closer look at the research
The Index draws on work in personality measurement, character strengths, curiosity and creative habits. The studies below inform its foundations; Coached developed the combined framework and interpretations.
- Johnson (2014) · Measuring facets of personality
- Partsch, Bluemke & Lechner · The structure of character strengths
- Grüning & Lechner (2022) · Different facets of curiosity
- Berlow and colleagues (2021) · Creative habits across disciplines
The underlying research uses different samples, from hundreds of participants to large personality datasets. These provide reference points for individual dimensions, rather than a single population ranking of creativity. Your report describes tendencies and offers interpretations; it doesn’t grade talent or predict achievement.
Find your creative type.

This is a work of love from a tiny team who's stayed up too late for months on end. The hope is it gives you an insight that you and people you love can use in life. Let us know if it has!
